CLOTHING GEM

In a city famous for its gem shows it does not seem unusual to find hidden treasures in this desert community. Being new to Tucson, I have canvased the city in search of amazing food, music, and clothing.

My latest discovery came downtown on N. Toole street.  When I found Laura Tanzer Atelier, it was as if I had stepped into a modern SoHo Boutique.  Now, this is a woman's store and I am a man, but I still appreciate art and fine clothing.   I was drawn to the quality construction, materials and thoughtful design of her work. Laura is a fixture in the shop and provided me with information about her path to designing clothes.

Laura comes from New York and spent her formative years learning from old world clothiers who instructed her on the finer points of clothing construction, techniques, and design. She studied at Parsons School of Design and at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Loading her toolbox for the future, Laura went to NYU's Stern School of Business. She arrived in Tucson via a Ph.D. program at the University of Arizona studying Renewable Natural resources.

Design. Business. Environmental Awareness.   These are all a part of Laura Tanzer signature clothing.

At her last Open House, I was there to see the clothing come to life. Women of all ages had a chance to play dress up in her exquisite designs. It had the feel of an intimate soiree with food and drinks and music in the background.

The oohs and ahhs from customers could be audibly heard as customers modeled her asymmetric collection.  Even the functional SPF 50 clothing looked runway ready and Tucson ordered.

Laura Tanzer's shop is a true gem and a must visit for the discerning clothes shopper.
